Make an impact as a Category Manager!

Category Management is accountable for developing a category strategy/business plan aligned with group, regional and local stakeholders enabling targeted profitable growth, customer acquisition and ROI in addition to effective supplier management through delivery of the best in class global offer for our customers. It defines and details the global supplier portfolio, product range and growth initiatives. It is also the foundation for plans and execution of supplier management and other related functions.

The Category Manager is typically aligned to a category of smaller sales volume and / or complexity (technical, suppliers etc) for which she or he is accountable. Follows the direction and strategy of the greater category strategy and aligns the delivery as required.

The Category Manager is also accountable for supplier management of an assigned supplier portfolio within the category. The category strategy and business plan are developed collaboratively with key stakeholders across the business. Most importantly this incorporates support of local go-to-market strategies, e.g. focus on specific industry verticals and local support. Accountable for the maintenance of the supplier and product portfolio and end to end lifecycle.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Category strategy planning, governance and execution
  • Set framework for and, working with relevant supplier managers, facilitate the development of supplier business plans to realise the defined category strategy.
  • Supplier Management including execution of supplier business plans and value extraction as part of category strategy
  • Successful NPI delivery for products where the Category Manager has supplier ownership
  • Securing Minimum Viable Content (MVC) product and transactional content onto content aggregator as basis for all NPIs
  • Communication and collaboration across relevant group stakeholders. Key aspects to cover include: Progress updates on delivery of strategy, performance metrics, range/supplier performance and optimization of strategy / plans as appropriate
  • Using digital data to inform ranging decisions and opportunities
  • Range reviews.
  • Use and respect the RACI / Operating Models and ways of working defined
  • Use the SRM to manage the daily work. (when tool is available)
  • Up to date information on the SRM (supplier contacts, meeting notes, contractual terms, market share.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications Required 

 

Essential:

• Good analytical skillset and strong attention to detail

• Experience of online trading and digital tools

• Working with Global Supplier brands

• A collaborative team player with good influencing skills

• Demonstrates an excellent understanding of, and the ability to articulate, the RS Value Proposition

• Sound commercial acumen and broad communication skills

• Positive can-do attitude, takes ownership and very results oriented

• Operational problem solver and good process management capability

Desirable:

• Experience of working in a matrix and cross-cultural environment

• Experience of working with an online digital toolset

• Educated to degree-level or equivalent

• Experience of working in a Commercial environment

• Experience of working with a Supplier
