Customs Compliance Specialist

As a Customs Compliance Specialist, you will be supporting our Export Despatch and Goods Receipt management teams to help us on our journey to becoming World Class in Customs Compliance.  In this remote role, you will be a part of an organization that promotes personal development, growth, and career progression and who will provide you with the tools and training you need to excel in the industry. 


Day to day, you will be reporting into the Global Customs Compliance Manager, ensuring that RS Components shipments are received and delivered with minimal delays and inconvenience to our clients.  Coordinating with our suppliers, carriers, brokers and internal customers, you will effectively manage all our Customs related queries, whilst giving clearance instructions to our key stakeholders, specifically in UK, Northern Ireland and the EU.

 

This is a largely remote role, with occasional trips to our Corby Distribution Centre.

 

 

What you will enjoy doing to be successful in this role:

 

  • Supporting the Global Customs Compliance Manager in ensuring that RS Components shipments are received and delivered with minimal delays caused by Customs Clearance
  • Dealing with Customs related queries from Suppliers, Carriers, Brokers and internal customers
  • Giving clearance instructions to Carriers and Brokers in UK, Northern Ireland and the EU
  • Checking and verifying import and export documentation
  • Providing support and advice relating to customs on projects, including Country of Origin and Duty Reduction
  • Assisting with Broker and Export despatch Audits

 

What you will need to have to be successful in this role

 

  • Experience of working in an Import and Export Customs operations role
  • Good understanding of Customs processes and procedures
  • Microsoft Office and Excel (moderate)
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service – our customers are at the heart of everything we do
  • The ability to persuade, challenge and negotiate with key stakeholders
  • Cultural and procedural awareness of markets outside the UK would be a definite plus – especially related to trade between UK and Northern Ireland and the EU
  • Some experience of coaching/mentoring staff (not direct line management) would be a bonus
  • Experience of working with other platforms and systems day to day, or the willingness to learn
