Customs Compliance Specialist (Operations Facing)

As a Customs Compliance Specialist, your key focus will be to ensure we as business and industry leaders are fully compliant with Customs Regulations, to support us on our journey to becoming World Class in Customs Compliance.


Reporting to the Global Custom Compliance Manager, you will be a part of an organization that promotes personal development, growth, and career progression and who will provide you with the tools and training you need to excel in the industry. 


Day to day, you will be ensuring that there are minimal delays in deliveries to customers incurred by delays at borders. You will put controls in place to raise our standing with HMRC and to avoid the risk of fines internationally. With a continual focus on improving the overall understanding of Customs Compliance within the Goods Receipt and Export Despatch areas, you will have the confidence to provide coaching and awareness to the wider operations team at all levels.

 

In this hybrid role, you will be required to manage your time and your week between home working and visits to our Corby and Nuneaton Distribution Centres, as and when needed.

 

What you will enjoy doing to be successful in this role:

 

  • Supporting our Distribution Centres in achieving 100% customs compliance (Right first time every time) – with a focus on our UK, French, German and Spanish warehouses
  • Raising understanding of how our warehouse operators’ activities relate to Customs Compliance
  • Acting as first point of contact with Brokers and Carriers
  • Ensuring correct Export documents are issued and handed to drivers by regular audits
  • Supporting all transaction types – customer orders, replenishment, inter-company returns
  • Reporting noncompliance to RS Management teams and the RS Global Customs Compliance Manager
  • Supporting our Distribution Centres in taking corrective actions when compliance issues occur

 

What you will need to have to be successful in this role

 

  • Experience of Operations Export processes and documentation
  • Experience of Customs Compliance  
  • Microsoft Office and Excel (moderate)
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service – our customers are at the heart of everything we do
  • The ability to persuade, challenge, lead and coach key stakeholders and staff in the importance of Customs Compliance within our business
  • Cultural and procedural awareness of markets outside the UK would be a definite plus
  • Experience of working with other platforms and systems or the willingness to learn
