Global Freight Manager

Reporting to the Vice President of Supply Chain Optimisation, the role of Global Freight Manager is primarily responsible for managing RS Components freight movements originating in the UK and Germany. You also have oversight of other freight movements within our group, including the APAC region and intra-European road movements.

 

Your role will be to ensure we deliver replenishment inventory and customer orders to our distribution centres and logistics partner’s sites around the world, enabling them to fulfil our customers’ requirements. You will also manage our freight forwarding logistics service providers to ensure they meet their commitments and will use data to identify hot spots and act before the hot spots become issues.

 

What You Will Do

  • Agrees the transport element of the promise for freight movements which contributes to the promise displayed to customers when placing orders.
  • Take ownership for increasing the key metrics on delivery to the end customers, including improving the NPS score
  • Continually understand the customer perception, reviewing Voice of Customer, and working with the key market stakeholders in the sales team and RS Local teams to improve customer perception
  • Monitor our logistics service provider performance, identifying problem areas which need to be addressed before major issues arise.
  • Drive cost and carbon reduction opportunity for Freight movements through working with Process improvement specialist and working directly with the logistics service providers
  • Drive the transport operations elements of the monthly and quarterly business reviews with logistics service providers – holding them to account for their performance.
  • Be responsible for the relationships with Operations, acting as the point of escalation for the operations teams where significant issue are identified with the logistics service providers.
  • Identify any “major incidents” relating to freight movements to the broader Transport Team and takes the lead to solve the problem as the incident manager within RS

 

What Will You Bring To the Role

  • Freight forwarding / management experience
  • Experience of working in a transport role, managing multiple third-party providers, and driving service and cost opportunities
  • Hands-on experience of working in supply chain
  • Budget management
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Be a proven leader with a track record of team leadership, both direct and remotely based.
  • Strong stakeholder management at all levels, and ability to influence through positive relationship building.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and organised. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to prioritise workloads, multi-task, and act on own initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

 

This role has been classed as a Hybrid role, which will allow you to remotely as well as attending our Corby Office on occasion.
