Senior Integration Architect


You will work closely with Digital, Data and Technology teams and business partners to interpret requirements (business and technical) and Solution Architecture designs to produce integration architecture documentation ready for an Integration Development team to consume.


Responsible for supporting the project full development life-cycle from ideation / project initiation through to development and production delivery.  This includes:

  • Providing high-level estimation during the early phases to help our business and technical teams to scope and shape project initiatives
  • Providing project teams and Solution Architects with guidance / recommendations on application integration options and best practices, helping to promote core integration principles e.g. loose-coupling etc
  • Producing integration architecture documentation including; application context diagrams, sequence diagrams, key design decisions, scope, assumptions, risks, data mapping specifications etc
  • Cataloguing all Integration Services and Interfaces identified
  • Ensuring that the level of documentation produced is appropriate for communicating to a range of key stakeholders, inside and outside of the Integration Practice team
  • Participating in peer reviews within the Integration Architecture team to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure adherence to the integration standards (design / processes / procedures) that are set (technical governance)


Liaising with potential Integration Service / API consumers and facilitating their onboarding. Be their single point of contact for Service / API information and drive the setup of new / maintenance of existing consumers (negotiation of SLAs, rate limiting / consumption). Actively review the health of Integration Services / APIs to adjust SLAs and / or system capacity.


Contribute to the definition and governance / application of integration best practices, principles and standards that align with Enterprise Architecture principles and the strategic roadmap.


Contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives and Design Working Groups, being a spokesperson for Application Integration.


Actively participate in integration Technical Design Authority (TDA) to ensure solutions adhere to patterns and document all outputs with clear outcomes.  Ensure they are clearly communicated to all stakeholders (e.g. technical, business, leadership) effectively.


To be the integration team single point of contact when working with project and technology teams to resolve design issues that arise during the project development life-cycle and actively provide technical leadership throughout. Allow stakeholders to make informed decisions where integration is a key consideration of the overall design (e.g. high-level estimation, solution options, technical feasibility, security, regulatory, people/process/skills, operational concerns, etc.). 


To continually review, evaluate industry direction along with vendor technologies that directly impacts the company integration strategy, roadmap and capabilities.


Actively engage, knowledge share and communicate to internal and external teams the benefits an enterprise integration capability provides and be the main advocate for best practices within your integration domain.


Be prepared to work in a challenging and fluid environment where there is constant change with a dynamic business and technology function and be prepared to challenge your stakeholders to provide the best outcome for the organisation and technology function.


Support all aspects of business and technical demand, irrespective of development methodologies used (e.g. Waterfall, Agile, etc.) by a diverse technology set of technology teams (e.g. Digital teams, enterprise systems, enterprise data ecosystems, etc.), but continually maintaining our processes and standards to ensure quality outcomes and consistency.






  • Demonstrable experience of working in an Enterprise level Integration environment. This experience should have been gained in large corporate/multi-national organisation or one of the large systems integrators
  • Extensive experience (at least 5 years) in working with enterprise level integration technology suites / platforms (e.g. IBM, MuleSoft, Tibco, SAP PI, etc.).  IBM is strongly preferred
  • Has extensive experience of conducting High Level Designs of enterprise level integration solutions for internal and external systems ranging from digital platforms (e.g. web, mobile, market places, etc.), microservices based applications, MDM systems, operational/transactional systems, B2B, B2C, Big Data (e.g. Business Warehouse, Data Lakes) and largescale corporate business systems (e.g. SAP landscapes)
  • Has a good understanding of web services and API based frameworks, batch and event driven architectures relating to traditional EAI, microservices and cloud native based architectures
  • Has a good understanding of traditional ETL solutions / Big Data ecosystems and the key differences between data integration and application integration capabilities
  • Can define message dictionaries and mapping rules as part of detailed mapping specifications suitable for implementation by working closely with messaging parties / stakeholders and negotiating mapping incompatibilities/issues
  • Has a thorough understanding and experience of API design and development using industry wide protocols (SOAP, ReST), message formats (XML, JSON) and specifications (e.g. XSD, OpenAPI/Swagger)
  • Familiar with Enterprise Data Modelling concepts and experience of translating data models into physical integration design artefacts (e.g. message models)
  • Competent / confident with the authoring of API specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger)
  • Has experience with integrating with third-parties solutions (e.g. packages, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS)
  • Has experience and knowledge of on-premise and cloud-based environments (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google, etc.) and understands different deployment options of integrations solutions in a true hybrid environment.
  • Has experience working with Technology Operational teams for incident/case management, problem management and associated processes such as service on-boarding, production change boards, monitoring/logging/audit, etc.
  • Operates well within Agile (e.g. Scrum, Kanban) and Waterfall project driven delivery cycles.
  • Has experience in applying information security principles to integration design to ensure adherence to corporate standards
  • Has extensive experience of adopting and working with / applying standards (architectural design as well as process standards)
  • Can elevate / translate detailed, technology capabilities to be documented such that they can be applied at architecture-level and communicated to external stakeholders (Engineering Managers, Enterprise and Solution Architects etc)



  • An understanding of the IBM Integration product suite / capabilities offered (Message Broker / IIB / App Connect, Cloud Pak for Integration – CP4I, DataPower, WebSphere Service Registry and Repository – WSRR)
  • Working knowledge of API Management solutions
  • SAP (ERP, CRM, S4Hana, C4Hana) integration experience
  • Experience working in a SAP based environment and familiar with IBM SAP Adapter integration (e.g. iDoc, BAPI)
  • An understanding of Java based frameworks and application integration experience
  • Working within a Retail, Manufacturing or Distributor organisations
  • Using Architecture tooling (e.g. ArchiMate, Sparx)
  • Familiar with collaboration tools such as wikis (e.g. Confluence), Agile Boards (e.g. Jira, Trello), MS Teams, Slack, etc
  • Understanding of DevOps and CI/CD pipelines and concepts
