Senior Performance Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Performance Engineer responsible for the overall quality and testing architecture of our products that our department produces. We use a range of innovative front-end and back-end tools and technology to drive robust, well-engineered practices through to delivery, giving the business that sought-after confidence. Consisting of DevOps Engineers, Performance Engineers and QA Engineers, we have a deeply embedded culture of collaboration, sharing our experiences and skills throughout.

 

Purpose of the role:

The Senior Performance Engineer would take on some of the responsibilities of the current Performance Test Team, ensuring that performance testing is carried out across our many microservices and products. You, as the Performance Test Engineer will be tasked with going into the development teams, working closely with Developers and QAs to performance test stories before they are release to production. This will include requirements gathering, Test Script creation all the way through to execution. You will be using JMeter/Loadrunner to create Test Scripts and execute performance tests, analyse them and create reports for the DevOps teams and determine how these stories impact the performance of our products. You will also be tasked with contributing to the teams’ effort to implement the current performance test strategy, driving innovation and working with the most up-to-date technologies to streamline current processes.

 

You will be responsible for:

  • Running end-to-end performance test projects within an Agile environment
  • Providing innovative solutions to streamline current processes using different technologies within the business and the performance test team
  • Integrating and maintaining performance testing within the teams’ development lifecycle
  • Identify and investigate potential performance degradation in the code
  • Implement best practices for performance testing
  • Identify the key metrics for measuring performance and generate reports based off them
  • Work with different teams to improve their knowledge of performance testing
  • Coaching and mentoring junior team members

 

What you will need to be successful in this role:

Essential

  • Previous experience as a dedicated performance engineer
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience using industry-wide performance testing tools (e.g. Microfocus LoadRunner and JMeter)
  • Proven experience with an object-oriented programming language
  • Proven experience performance testing .NET web applications and API’s
  • Experience of setting up the performance tests from requirements gathering to test reporting
  • Experience of developing and implementing frameworks for end-to-end performance testing
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills to produce reports, talk through and present to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to coordinate test runs which require multi-department co-operation
  • Experience in creating realistic performance testing scripts and scenarios

 

Desirable

  • Experience in Continuous Integration/Delivery
  • Knowledge of Microservices and experience with DevOps
  • Performance testing cloud microservices in AWS cloud
  • Experience in testing applications hosted in the cloud, particularly AWS
  • Experience working with JSON, Jira
  • Experience working in Kanban environments
  • Experience working with build & deployment tools
  • Experience working with pipelines and running performance tests through pipelines
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring junior team members

  • Be very organized and able to define and follow processes strictly
  • Ability to adapt quickly with methodologies, tools, best practices and processes within specific area of responsibility
  • Proficient in utilizing quality improvement tools and techniques.
  • Be extremely detail-oriented with respect to documentation and communication
